One part of this that is the fact is that he doesn't have "the task" to focus on. The pain is enormous, but you're focused on the baby.

The total and complete fear for te baby's well-being will make you do ANYTHING.

After 6 or so hours of induction, I asked for a c-section. No pain killers worked, I was actually in too much pain to even yell. Luckily, I decided a couple hours later to do what I wanted instead of what the snooty nurse wanted. Judging by how slowly everything was going, I cut my labor by at least a third, and had only 10 hours.

IOW, I wasn't afraid about anything happening to the baby -I knew that would be fine. I just wanted someone to actually listen to me. Thank G-d for my husband.

At one point, I actually told them to shoot me in the head --as long as the baby was OK. I just wanted the pain to end.
